Top Three Reasons You Should Take that Recruiter’s Call

July 2, 2015

Remember that really frustrating day at work when you thought, OK that’s it. It’s time to move on. Then you cool down and forgot all about it. Only a passing thought, fueled by emotion or too much caffeine. But then again, what’s the math behind those passing thoughts in regards to their frequency. If I think that passing thought say 10 times in the span of a week, is it more than a passing thought?

This leads to the next thought: How hard would it be to move on? Can I pick when I want to? And can I go somewhere better? How can I be sure I’m moving upwards?

And that’s the top reason, you should answer a recruiter’s’ call. Maybe you’re not ready to move right now. Maybe that passing thought only hits once every other month when that evil supervisor from Kenosha visits the office. But being able to move when you’re ready (and the time will come) and having more power over when and where you move to is key. A good recruiter brings these powers to you, and the only way to separate the good from the bad is by keeping up a relationship.

Keeping your market value up to date.

It’s easier to give yourself a raise when you’re dealing with more than one manager from one company making that decision. A recruiter that specializes in your field will give you the most accurate idea of how much you should expect to make given your experience, location and the market.

Have a better sense of what’s moving in your industry.

It’s a lot easier keeping up with the waves of supply and demand for your skill when you’re in touch with a recruiter.

Portfolio and Resume Upgrade.

It could be something as simple as a typo lurking in your resume. Or maybe your resume simply isn’t targeted to get what you want. Your recruiter can find this before it gets to a hiring manager.
