Compete for New Talent the Way Marketers Compete for New Business

January 6, 2017

The worlds of employee recruitment and marketing are becoming increasingly more intertwined. Recruiters are competing for new talent the way marketers compete for new business, especially online.

In today’s uber-competitive staffing marketplace, top talent first turns to social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with potential opportunities. HR professionals can learn a thing or two from their marketing counterparts when updating their hiring practices to become more competitive.

Here are three valuable marketing strategies HR can use to attract quality talent to the team.

Encourage a digital workplace community

Let current employees help you spread the message about the advantages of working for your company. Encourage them to share content on the company networks, or even their own, perhaps offering rewards for participation and shares. Employees crave the development of positive company culture because they know it makes for a better workplace. Relate to them the importance of attracting quality staff and turn them into brand ambassadors to help achieve a common goal.

Be relatable

People want to work for companies that exude a sense of humanity and authenticity. On your company webpage be genuine and transparent. Use videos to share who you are instead of long blocks of text. Do not fill your page with generic stock photos; use pictures of real employees engaged in real work, or have them share anecdotes about their experiences at the company.

Think about your application interface

Potential employees are not only going to find you online, they’re also going to apply online. You don’t want the process to be too clunky or cumbersome. Make sure your job posts read as personable and friendly as your company culture. Perhaps offer them the option to video chat with someone to ask questions early on in the process, even before setting up an actual interview.
