What’s the Value of a Recruiter?

There’s no company that we’ve worked with that has it all figured out. A little luck plays a role in every placement, but you can get rid of a lot of the unknowns and rest assured that you’re on the right path when you have the help of a good recruiter. It’s a relationship and there’s a learning curve, but with a good recruiter it shouldn’t be too steep.

A Pool Pass.

We’ve talked about the passive pool previously and its benefits can’t be understated. The passive pool is filled with talent that hasn’t sent your company a resume. It’s a pretty deep pool. A staffing agency should be judged by how well they’ve managed theirs (is it leading to great placements or are they drowning?). Access to this pool is huge, and it’s a big part of the value a recruiter brings, but it’s not everything. You need the volume, but even more important, you need smart curation.

Understanding Market Conditions.

Like anything, there are times, or certain market conditions, that make the value of a recruiter easier to spot. Your relationship with your recruiter should be long-term and cut across the sliding supply and demand of labor, but when labor runs into shorter supply because either your field or the economy is taking off (or both) you really need a recruiter to help you make the most of what’s available, and that’s where we segue smoothly to the next, more refined asset.

Understanding Fit.

A good recruiter should have insight into how companies in your industry are currently solving different staffing and labor issues, apply this to available resources, your work environment and budget and come up with the best possible solution. The deeper vision into these aspects is what ensures the best chance of success.
